For the first time in our 30 years, AAE will be offering a residency for Brunswick’s Kindergarten students! They will work with Gretchen Berg, Maine’s 2007 Arts Educator of the year. Gretchen collaborates with teachers and students to bring their studies to life using Physical Theater.

First Grade and Primary Pod students will join Martin Swinger for Songwriting in the Classroom: music/language activity crossing all curriculums. Martin is a professional musician, songwriter and arts educator. He has been a visiting artist in schools around the country, and has recorded 4 CDs, 2 specifically for children. www.swingersongwriter.com

Second Grade students will work with Antonio Rocha, an international storyteller and performer of mime. He has worked at The Smithsonian and the Kennedy Center and in 10 other countries on 5 continents. They will be studying the Egypt and the Middle East. Antonio will focus on these areas. www.storyinmotion.com

Third Graders will be joining with Katherine Harman Harding in her workshop, “Prints, Ponds and Poems” Beginning the class with a poem and learning about artists who came before us, students will then proceed to making stencils and gelatin prints. We are thrilled that they will be studying ponds in their classrooms as well. www.ospreycovestudio.com

Fourth Grade students will be studying simple machines. We thought Julia Yeo’s Crazy Art Clocks workshop was a perfect match. Each student will create a real working clock using foam core as a base, adding 2D and 3D parts to make each clock a work of art.

Fifth Graders will work with Singer/Songwriter Josephine Cameron who has recorded four albums of traditional American Folk Music. Fifth grade students will study the Civil War in the Spring and Josephine’s music seemed like the perfect complement to their curriculum. www.songwritingforkids.com
