Working as an observational painter, I seek to translate my perceptual experience. Painting on location directs my focus to capture elements of the natural world through luminous color and modeled shape, as I respond to my senses.

Born into a family of fiber artists, I began internalizing color, pattern, geometry and the effects of light at an early age. Quilting and printing are important visual exercises for my painting. By placing and arranging color and pattern, I work to construct a painting in the way I would build a quilt or carve a plate. I intend my work to project intimacy of color, a sense of place and contemplation of my relationship to the physical world.
