Artist Information: All of us are creative. For many years I poured my creativity into the material and presentations of the science courses I taught. When I retired, I wanted to apply that creative energy to something entirely different – painting. Favorite subjects include objects and scenes from nature, an interest that complements my background in ecology, physiology, and animal behavior. I love working with soft pastels: they allow for lots of control in mark making, but it is also easy to create a painterly finish. Conveying Resilience blends the use of soft pastel with an up-close study of the surprisingly impressive flowers produced by this otherwise prickly plant.
