June 2019 Newsletter

We believe that the Arts are Elementary to learning. Our mission is to spark curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through arts integration in all Brunswick elementary schools and raise awareness of the arts in the local community.

The red carpet was unrolled and the library staged as a theater for the 5th grade movie premier. Thanks again to Brittany Parker for the filming and editing/special effects and also to Heather Martin, the HBS librarian, for letting us use her class time for the premieres!

Artist Bridget Matros was back for her final session with the kindergarteners and brought the "curtain" of shrinky dinks the kids made in January! It is awesome and so fun to look at. Bridget even made some extra special ones - and there's one of Mr. C as well!

We’re delighted to announce

our 2019-20 artist residencies:

  • ·"Yup, That's Me!” Kindergarten will be seeing, showing, and expressing themselves with mixed media artist Bridget Matros.”

  • ·1st Grade and Multi Age will learn how the predictable cycles of day to night and the changing of the seasons influence life on earth through the sharing of folktales, songs, and movement games, with Jennifer Armstrong.

  • ·2nd Grade will be creeping and crawling with Gretchen Berg to enhance their study of arthropods through physical theater.

  • ·3rd Grade will explore the connection between art and poetry during their residency with Dawn Prindall & Virginia Brown.

  • ·4th grade will work with Kate & Laura of Unwritten Roads to write and perform a mockumentary interview style film featuring famous Mainers from history.

Please join us in thanking our Program Director, Kate Kalajainen, for her many years of dedicated service as staff and a board member. June is her last month with AAE as we’re reducing the size of our staff to focus our resources on our programs.
